KATAI
One portfolio, many disciplines.
A living, system-driven portfolio for an interdisciplinary artist, director, and photographer — built around generative typography, cinematic work, and evolving digital systems.

Challenge
KATAI works across film direction, photography, installation, and experimental digital systems — but most portfolios force artists into a single lane. The site needed to feel alive, structured, and unmistakably his — a portfolio that could hold short films, still images, and generative art in one coherent world.
Approach
We built a system-driven experience anchored by Active Font — a living typographic layer where titles shift in real time across writing systems. A cinematic hero leads into a selections grid, category cards for each discipline, and an exhibitions archive — all unified by minimal chrome, rounded editorial frames, and a persistent info bar.
Outcome
A portfolio that reads as one evolving practice — not a folder of unrelated projects. Press, curators, and collaborators can move from SOLA to short films to photography without leaving the world of the site.
Visual breakdown
Built for an artist with many lanes.
Every surface was designed around KATAI’s practice — not around portfolio templates. The site leads with a living portrait, keeps navigation minimal, and lets film, photography, and system aesthetics coexist in one editorial rhythm.

01
Cinematic hero
A full-bleed portrait anchors the experience — cinematic lighting, generative type overlay, and a title that shifts in real time through Active Font. Designed to feel like entering a work, not loading a homepage.

02
Selections
A horizontal project grid puts film, photography, and art front and center — each card a rounded editorial frame with its own typographic identity, linking deeper into the practice.

Desktop — discipline cards
03
Category cards
Disciplines organized as image-led cards — short films, photography series, and system-aesthetic projects each get their own visual language while sharing the same structural rhythm.

Desktop — exhibitions archive
04
Exhibitions
International programming surfaced in a dedicated section — venue imagery, dates, and project context for curators and press reviewing KATAI’s exhibition history.

Generative type per project
05
Active Font
An experimental typographic system where titles exist as living states — characters from multiple writing systems continuously shift, expressing system aesthetics directly in the interface.
