Every room, counted. Nobody tracked.

A plaque at each door, a beacon in each room. The numbers in your console by nine the next morning.

01

In the rooms.

Two small things on the wall. Nothing for the visitor to set up.

The plaque

Tap the door. The room opens.

The plaque for Gallery 201: a QR code, the room, Tap or scan · TAO
The TAO App Clip: Gallery 201, Ask About This Room, then its works, Renoir, Monet, Dalou, Caillebotte
What it does
A code and an NFC tag at every door. A tap opens the App Clip in two seconds, nothing installed: the room, its works, the guide already talking.
Why it matters
Every visitor has the room in hand, not only the ones with the app.
What you do
Tap, or scan.

The beacon

The room greets you.

What it does
A coin-sized beacon sits inside each room. The installed app greets the room as you walk in, no tap. Each arrival is counted.
Why it matters
The rooms people walk into, not only the ones they tap.
What you do
Walk in.

In the console.

Every room, every hour, on one page.

Rooms

Visits, opens, asks, tours, arrivals.

The console, Rooms, seven days: 386 visits, 127 opens, 70 asks, 23 tours, 24 arrivals; visits by hour; each gallery’s counts
What it shows
Every count by hour and by room, the works people opened most, and what they asked.
Why it matters
Where people stop, and what they want to know when they do.
What you click
Rooms. Today, 7 days, 30 days.

What it costs the building.

Hardware for every room, bought once.

Plaque and tag.
About $8 a door: the printed code and an NFC sticker behind it.
Beacon.
About $25 a room. Any iBeacon unit; the console keeps the plan.
A whole museum.
124 galleries, a plaque and a beacon in each: under $4,500.
Printed from the console.
Every plaque, ready to print at size.

Counts, not people.

The console knows rooms. It never knows visitors.

Counts only.
Each event is a count: which room, which work, how it came. Nothing else.
To the minute.
Times are kept to the minute, never finer.
No one in it.
No names, no devices, no addresses.
Questions, without who asked.
What people ask is kept without who asked it. The words are removed after 30 days.

Count every room.
